Ontario Barn Inventory Reseach Assistance

The Ontario Barn Inventory and Preservation Analysis project aims to assess the current state of barns in select townships across Ontario. Over the past 30 years, many historical barns have been lost, and understanding this trend is crucial for preservation efforts. The project will involve gathering data on the number of existing barns and analyzing historical records to determine the rate of loss. This information will be instrumental in supporting Ontario Barn Preservation's advocacy and lobbying efforts for policy changes aimed at preserving these cultural landmarks. The project will provide learners with the opportunity to apply data collection and analysis skills, as well as gain insights into historical preservation and policy advocacy. Love old barns?! Want to help save more of them. Make a difference by assisting Ontario Barn Preservation in helping with a barn counting exercise. Explore historic data and current conditions to help us understand how many barns are in a selected few areas across Ontario. This data will help us understand the rate of loos, what triggers are often associated with demolition of old barns. We will be using this data to convey to government and policy makers on the importance and urgency of saving old barns.  No travel required Remote work Potential for renumeration, but not confirmed at this time. Estimated time frame 120-600hours or as interested. No deadline Qualifications: Must have familiarity with farm buildings and farm types. Able to identify a chicken barn from a dairy barn using only google maps and street view. Must have own personal computer with internet access Must be comfortable with technology and willing to learn and troubleshoot.
