I Like Being Me Books
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Description

Connecting people to books and books to people.

ILikeBeingMeBooks.com is more than a bookstore — it’s a movement. Founded by longtime educators Sam & Rita, whose shared passion for literacy and cultural representation spans over three decades, this proudly Canadian, Toronto-based platform celebrates Black voices and Africentric stories that uplift, empower, and inspire.

In 1994, Sam and Rita opened their first Afrocentric bookstore in Toronto. It quickly blossomed into a community hub — a vibrant space for authors, artists, educators, and changemakers to connect. Today, ILikeBeingMeBooks.com continues that legacy in the digital age, curating literature that reflects the richness and diversity of the Black experience.

From affirming children’s books to powerful memoirs, health and wellness titles, and justice-oriented literature, our collection is designed to educate, affirm, and engage readers of all ages. We also spotlight independent authors and artists, and offer cultural gifts, audiobooks, and original art, prints, and posters.

Now, as authors themselves, Sam & Rita are bringing their own stories to classrooms, libraries, conferences, and communities across Canada and beyond.

At ILikeBeingMeBooks.com, every story matters. We are committed to inspiring generations through inclusive literature — and to connecting people to books, and books to people.
